This is the best BBQ pulled pork slow cooker recipe! It's full of flavor and easy to make. It’s a lot like our slow cooker pulled chicken sandwich recipe, but made with pork instead.

This version is saucy, sweet, and smoky. It's a nice switch up from the classic smoked pulled pork recipe, which is served without sauce.

The Memphis BBQ sauce is a homemade recipe, and keeps the meat moist. Our soul food seasoning and BBQ rub bring that flavor we all love.

This Crockpot BBQ pulled pork recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends when you want something that tastes like it took all day (but really didn’t)!

    Ingredients

BBQ pulled pork slow cooker ingredients (bbq sauce, onion, boneless pork shoulder, bbq seasoning, soul food seasoning)
    • Pork Shoulder: We used boneless pork shoulder that was cut in half (that’s how it was sold at our local store). It actually worked out perfectly, since the smaller pieces fit better in the slow cooker and cooked more evenly.
    • Seasonings: We seasoned the pork with our Soul Food Seasoning and BBQ rub. Feel free to use your favorite all-purpose and BBQ rubs if you have them on hand.
    • BBQ Sauce: We used our homemade Memphis Style BBQ Sauce, but your favorite store-bought or homemade sauce will work just fine. Use more or less depending on how saucy you like your pulled pork.

See the recipe card below for full information on the ingredients and quantities.

Tip: Don’t shred the pork until you’re ready to serve it so it stays moist.

The finished pork can be enjoyed on sandwiches, nachos, tacos, or on its own with your favorite sides.

This is the best coleslaw for pulled pork. Or if you want to switch things up, try it in Memphis style BBQ spaghetti.

My favorite way to use BBQ pulled pork is our pulled chicken sandwich recipe (pictured above), but swap the chicken for pork.

    Crockpot Pulled Pork FAQs

Can I cook pulled pork in the slow cooker on high?

Yes! Cook pulled pork in the Crockpot on high heat for about 4 to 5 hours.

How do I know when slow cooker pulled pork is done?

It should be fork-tender and easy to shred. If it still feels tough, it needs more time, keep cooking and check again after 30–45 minutes.

Can I freeze leftover BBQ pulled pork?

Yes! Store cooled pulled pork in freezer-safe containers or bags for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat on the stovetop or in a slow cooker.

What if my pork shoulder is too big for the slow cooker?

Cut it in half! It fits better, cooks more evenly, and is easier to shred once tender.

    Ingredients

    • 4-5 pounds boneless pork shoulder
    • 2 tablespoons soul food seasoning or your favorite all-purpose rub
    • ¼ cup BBQ rub or your favorite rub
    • 1-2 medium white onions sliced
    • 2 cups Memphis style BBQ sauce or your BBQ favorite sauce

    Instructions

    • Coat the pork shoulder evenly with Soul Dust and BBQ rub, making sure every side is well-seasoned.
    • Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker, then add the seasoned pork shoulder on top. Pour the BBQ sauce over the meat and cover with the lid.
    • Set the slow cooker to low and cook for 8 hours, stirring once around the 4-hour mark.
    • When the pork is tender, use two forks to shred it and mix it with the sauce and onions. Add more BBQ sauce if you like it extra saucy.

    Notes

    • Don’t shred the pork until you’re ready to serve. This helps it stay moist and juicy.
    • The onions can be left out or swapped for other vegetables, like bell peppers.
    • The finished pork is perfect for sandwiches, nachos, tacos, or served with your favorite sides.
    • Serves 6–8 people (or up to 10 sandwiches).
