These  candied yams are sweet and buttery and feature brown sugar and warm spices. A traditional soul food candied yams recipe passed down from generation to generation.

Ingredients

- sweet potatoes  - butter - salt - ground cinnamon - ground nutmeg - granulated sugar - brown sugar  - vanilla extract - nonstick cooking spray or softened - butter

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Grease baking dish. Clean, peel, and slice sweet potatoes. Arrange in dish.

Melt butter, add salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and both sugars. Whisk, stir in vanilla.

Pour butter mixture over sweet potatoes, cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes.

Uncover, coat sweet potatoes with candied mixture. Bake until tender, 15-20 mins. Rest for 5-10 mins before serving.
